We concluded our 2006 hiking calendar with a relaxing hike to Great Falls Park. Along the hiking trail we explored nature and wild life along the trail.

We celebrated the holidays with an evening of music, dancing, and casino games, while raising funds for charity. The evening started with a live bank performing music for dancing followed by a DJ spinning dance hits from around the world. Throughout the night attendees enjoyed casino games along with French food and wine.

Our monthly ballroom dance lessons at the French Embassy is a wonderful opportunity to learn two popular ballroom dances in one evening. This month we learned how to dance the waltz and merengue. We invite you to the French Embassy in December to learn how to dance the cha cha and salsa.

As a mysterious autumn night turns to intrigue, we commemorated the 3rd anniversary of the International Club of DC and the 61st anniversary of the United Nations with a memorable international celebration of music, wine, food, and dancing at the historic Post Office Pavilion. Attendees enjoyed an unforgettable evening of elegance and sophistication while dancing to a 40-piece classical orchestra as well as a Latin band. We thank all our members for helping make our events successful and joining us for our anniversary celebration.

We enjoyed an evening of Jazz at the Austrian Embassy. The evening also included an Austrian wine reception. Her Excellency Ambassador Novotney, the Austrian Ambassador to the United States delivered the welcome remarks and introduced the musicians before the concert. We hope to see you at our upcoming jazz concert at the Austrian Embassy on January 17.

Great Falls is a beautiful National Park just minutes from Washington DC. We visited the park to experience the beautiful fall foliage colors, hike, and enjoy the outdoors. We hope to see you at our next hike to Great Falls on December 16.

We learned how to prepare a complete Indian meal with dessert at the Heritage Indian restaurant. The cooking lesson was followed by lunch with dessert.

Just in time for our upcoming galas, we learned swing and salsa dancing followed by a night of dancing to swing and salsa music. Our dance lessons don't require that you come with a dance partner since we switch partners around during the lesson.

In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary for the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the Ambassador of Hungary and Mrs. Náda P. Simonyi invited ICDC members for a very special evening at the Embassy of Hungary featuring Hungarian music, culture and food. The evening included a wonderful piano concert featuring the works of Hungarian composers.

Do you speak a foreign language? We invite you to join us for one of our monthly language discussion session to practice a foreign language with the help of a native speaker. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet other ICDC members who speak a foreign language. We invite you to join us on Thursday, November 26 to practice your French, Spanish, German, and Italian.

We discovered the world's most ancient art and paintings during a fascinating tour of discovery of the Freer Gallery of Art. The tour was preceded by a relaxing lunch at the gallery cafe and it was also a wonderful opportunity to meet other club members who appreciate art. We hope to see you at our next art gallery tour!

Our October Happy Hour was held at Finemondo a chic restaurant and bar located in the downtown business district. Our Happy hours are a great way to meet other ICDC members in a friendly and relaxed setting after work. We concluded our fall kayaking season with a spectacular kayaking session to enjoy the fall foliage and nature from the Potomac River. We returned back to our Georgetown dock for a picnic dinner at the end of the evening. We hope to see you at our fall foliage hiking trip to Great Falls Park on Saturday October 26!

Our volunteer events at the Capital Area Food Bank are a rewarding way to contribute to society and help those who are less fortunate. It is also a great opportunity to meet other caring ICDC members. We look forward to seeing you at a future volunteer event at the Food Bank.

Our French Embassy ballroom dance lessons provide a wonderful opportunity to learn a variety of ballroom dances while meeting other ICDC members who love to dance! Each month we teach a different ballroom dance. In October, we learned how to dance the Viennese Waltz just in time for our upcoming formal balls an dour trip to Vienna Austria scheduled for January!

Our annual fall foliage hiking trip to Shenandoah National is one of our most popular outdoor activities. We discovered a kaleidoscope of colors as we explored the beautiful Shenandoah mountains. We hiked to the highest point of the park, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and hiked to a waterfall before returning back home.

We learned how to prepare a complete Lebanese meal including dinner and dessert. The cooking class was preceded by a reception with wine and followed by dinner. We hope to see you at our next cooking class!

We concluded our last sailing session for 2006 by enjoying a wonderful afternoon of sailing. The weather was perfect as we sailed and enjoyed a picnic lunch before returning back to the dock.

We learned about the culture and people of Belarus during our reception at the Embassy of Belarus. Belarusian food and drinks were served during the event and ICDC members also had the opportunity to meet the embassy staff.

Our monthly ballroom dance lessons at the Embassy of France are immensely popular with ICDC members. Each month we focus on one or two ballroom dances and it is a wonderful opportunity to learn ballroom dancing just in time for our upcoming balls and galas! In October we invite you to the French Embassy for a very rare opportunity to learn the beautiful Viennese Waltz!

We enjoyed an evening of piano music featuring Austrian and German composers performed for us by the young child prodigies of the International Society for Musically Gifted Children under the tutelage of Dr. Bella Oster. We appreciate the support and cooperation of the EMbassy of Austria Cultural Forum to make the evening possible. The piano concert was followed by a dinner reception featuring Austrian food and wine.

We learned one of the most passionate and romantic dances, the Argentine Tango, while meeting other ICDC members who love to dance.

We explored the West Building of the National Gallery of art and discovered the highlights of the gallery. The private tour was led by a docent of the National Gallery of Art and was preceded by lunch with other attendees.

We visited Great Falls Park one last time before fall sets in. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience a spectacular waterfall just minutes from DC while meeting other ICDC members who enjoy the outdoors.

We enjoyed a a very rare opportunity to dance on the grounds of the Swiss Embassy to the sounds of Sam Burckhardt and his orchestra. Our memorable garden party featured Swiss food, music, wine, and art! Swing dance lessons were offered before the dance party.

In a single evening we learned how to dance both swing and salsa and enjoyed a night of dancing while enjoying the company of ICDC members. The evening also included a dance performance.

Gently gliding just inches above the Potomac River, surrounded by Washington's monuments while the sun sets is a surreal and memorable experience. After returning back to our Georgetown dock, we enjoyed a picnic dinner while meeting other ICDC members who took part in the sunset and moonlight kayaking session. We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of sailing on the Potomac River while enjoying the company of other attendees. We learned the basics of operating a sail boat and enjoyed a picnic lunch aboard the boat before heading back to the dock. We have one last sailing session scheduled for 2006. Our tour focused on 19th Century French paintings. While meeting other ICDC members who love art, we learned how impressionists tried to capture fleeting effects of light and atmosphere. As the century began, the academic style favored by the official Salon in France still dictated the success of artists and public taste. But soon that began to change. Realists turned convention on its head to give heroic character to everyday subjects.

We started the weekend by embarking on a relaxing cruise on the Potomac River. We enjoyed a catered meal while taking in breathtaking views of various Washington monuments and landmarks as the sun set.

Our monthly Languages of the World discussion sessions are a wonderful way to practice a foreign language with the help of native speakers. On July 25 we invite you to join us for our next Languages of the World Discussion where we will practice our French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.

Since 1981, the French have been celebrating the Summer Solstice with La Fête de la Musique, a festival that showcases amateur and professional musicians playing in the streets. Traditionally, full of different musical colors, this event is a very joyful and unique experience, gathering people of all ages outdoors. With the cooperation of La Maison française we recreated this atmosphere for a sold out celebration with over 1,000 attendees!

At our reception at the Embassy of Croatia, we enjoyed the rare opportunity to taste authentic Croatian cuisine while meeting other internationally-minded professionals in town as well as members of the Croatian-American community. The evening featured a performance by Sungji Kim (soprano) and Stanley Alexandrowicz (guitar).

On a gorgeous spring afternoon, we enjoyed an afternoon of sailing aboard the 55-foot schooner, America's Spirit. After sailing to Alexandria past Washington National Airport, we returned back to the dock after a picnic lunch aboard the boat. We practiced French, Spanish, German, and Italian at our popular language discussion event. Our monthly language discussion events are a wonderful way to practice a foreign language while meeting other ICDC members who speak the same language. The language discussions are facilitated by native speakers with experience teaching.

We enjoyed a day of hiking at Shenandoah National Park. It was a wonderful opportunity to get away from the city to breathe fresh mountain air and experience spectacular spring foliage and flowers. After a picnic lunch featuring international cuisine we hiked to a spectacular waterfall before returning back to town.

We enjoyed a reception featuring German music, food, and wine at the Embassy of Germany. The piano concert before the reception celebrated the music of German-Austrian composers and is a part of our ongoing tribute to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Iceland is one of the most beautiful, dramatic, and pristine, places on earth with breathtaking landscapes and natural wonders. Our overseas trip to Iceland was attended by nearly 30 adventurers. During our short stay we explored volcanic craters, waterfalls, geysers, and traveled by horseback. In the evening we enjoyed the nightlife of Reykjavik, the Capital of Iceland including a visit to the Ice Bar made entirely of ice with ice furniture! One of the most memorable excursions of the trip was the visit to the Blue Lagoon Geothermal spa where we basked on a lagoon naturally warmed by geothermal heat and replete with natural minerals from volcanic soil.

Volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank is a rewarding way to help our community and meet other ICDC members who care about poverty and hunger. After a brief overview of the Food Bank's operations, we help pack food for over 500 families.

We celebrated Cinco De Mayo at the Embassy Row Hilton Hotel. The evening featured music by the renowned salsa band Sin Miedo as well as Mexican food. After a brief salsa dance lesson, we danced the night away to a mix of salsa and other Latin sounds.

Our Games of the World events are a wonderful way to end the weekend over a friendly evening of board games with other ICDC members and make new friends.

We experienced a memorable evening of kayaking on the Potomac River. Watching the sunset over the Potomac River and the Washington DC come alive with lights was a wonderfully memorable way to start our weekend. On a magical winter evening near the dawn of springtime we celebrated an elegant evening of Viennese music, food, wine, and dancing at the magnificent Grand Ballroom of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. 300 ICDC members enjoyed a lavish Viennese dessert buffet after dinner while dancing to the world's beloved waltzes impeccably performed by the Con Brio Orchestra. Our monthly language discussion events are one of our signature events. Extremely popular with ICDC members since the inception of the club the sessions are a great way to practice a foreign language with the help of native speakers who have experience teaching. We toured the Washington National Cathedral on a beautiful Spring morning. Before touring the inside we experienced magnificent springtime vies of the cathedral and the surrounding gardens. The tour was preceded with breakfast and coffee at Zebra Lounge.

On an absolutely gorgeous spring morning, we enjoyed a day of sailing on the Potomac River. While cruising the river, we also enjoyed a picnic lunch aboard the sailboat. A few spaces are still available if you would like to join us for sailing lessons on the Potomac River scheduled for May aboard our 65-foot sail boat!

We enjoyed an evening of Saudi Arabian culture and cuisine along with the opportunity to meet the embassy staff as well as other ICDC members with an interest in international cultures. The evening also included a traditional Saudi buffet, presentation of customary clothing, as well as a question and answer session with the embassy staff.

The dance lesson is followed by a performance, dance contest, and the opportunity to dance to a great mix of salsa and swing music.

Our annual International Cherry Blossom picnic is a popular springtime tradition with ICDC members. The picnic this year was attended by over 250 ICDC members and was our largest outdoor event to date. The event was sponsored by ICDC as a free event to help members meet each other and enjoy the spectacular cherry blossoms in a friendly setting and included cuisine from around the world.

Over 50 ICDC members rolled up their sleeves at the Capital Area Food Bank on a Saturday afternoon to help combat hunger in the Washington DC area. It was a rewarding opportunity to help those in our community who are less fortunate.

We embarked on a hiking trip to explore Great Falls Park in Maryland. We hiked to a spectacular waterfall and enjoyed the company of other ICDC members who love the outdoors.

We took part in an indoor rock climbing session at Sport Rock. The lesson was preceded by a lesson on rock climbing that covered safety and the basics of rock climbing. Afterwards we enjoyed an evening of rock climbing.

At our reception at the Embassy of Croatia, we discovered the rich cultural heritage of Croatia as well as learned about the music, architecture, culture, and geography. The reception included dinner and dessert that included many popular Croatian delicacies.

Our monthly tours of the National Gallery of Art are some of our most popular events! In February we discovered the highlights of the East Building of the National Gallery of Art, which houses its modern art collection. The tour was preceded by lunch at the Cascade Cafe.

We enjoyed an evening of international board games at Teaism. Our Board Game evenings are a great way to conclude your weekend by sharing some of your favorite board games with other ICDC members.

Our monthly Happy Hours are a great way to meet other ICDC members in a relaxed setting after work. The Happy Hours are popular both with new as well as longtime members as a way to make new friends from around the world. We hope to see you at our next Happy Hour at the rooftop of the Embassy Row Hilton Hotel.

We enjoyed our last ice skating session of the year at the Pershing Park Ice rink. The evening started was a lesson on ice skating and was followed by ice skating and socializing with other ICDC members surrounded by monuments.

In time for our annual Viennese Ball at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, we learned how to dance the Viennese waltz in the beautiful grand ballroom of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The lessons were taught by Herb and Carol Traxler who are natives of Austria.

We learned how to prepare a complete Lebanese meal with dessert with the help of the chef at Lebanese Taverna. The cooking class was preceded by a reception with Lebanese appetizers and wine followed by a Lebanese dinner with dessert. Our hands-on cooking classes at Lebanese Taverna are a great way to learn how to prepare a delicious and health meal at home. We hope to see you next time!

We celebrated Valentine's day at the Embassy of Switzerland with a reception featuring Swiss food, chocolate and wine. The evening also included a short movie about Switzerland as well as welcome remarks by the Swiss Embassy Cultural Attache.

Great Falls ia a beautiful National Park located minutes from DC. Though the hike to Great Falls was officially canceled due to a winter storm, a few of us braved the weather and discovered a winter wonderland and enjoyed a day of winter hiking!

We celebrated the life, legacy, and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by taking part in two movie screenings at the Embassy of Austria. The movie screenings we organized with the cooperation of the Embassy of Austria Cultural Forum.

Our Indian cooking classes are a wonderful way to learn how to prepare an Indian meal and enjoy lunch with dessert afterwards. The cooking demonstration covers spices and other ingredients along with techniques used in Indian cooking.

Fencing lessons are one of our most popular monthly activities. The lessons start with an overview of fencing where attendees learn the basics of posture, footwork, and how to fence. Afterwards we enjoyed fencing with other ICDC members.

Our monthy happy hours are a great way to meet well over 100 ICDC members in a single evening after work. It is a relaxing setting to make new friends from around the world. Our 2006 January Happy Hour was held at Cloud, a chic lounge located near Du Pont Circle.

We learned how to dance tango at an intimate lounge in Adam's Morgan while enjoying the company of other ICDC members. The tango lesson was followed by a night of dancing to tango and Latin music. We hope to see you at our next tango lessons!

We concluded 2005 with a spectacular New Year's Eve gala at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel that was attended by over 2,000 attendees, our largest event so far! The event featured food from all five continents, as well as dancing to music by 6 live orchestras.

We discovered one of the most influential revolutions in the art world by taking a private tour of the National Gallery of Art. The tour was preceded by lunch at the cascade cafe allowing us the opportunity to meet and socialize with other ICDC members who appreciate art. Our Swing vs. Salsa dance parties are a great way to learn two of the most popular styles of dancing while meeting other internationally-minded professionals and making new friends. After lessons on swing and salsa dancing, we enjoyed a night of dancing to a mix of swing and salsa as well as enjoying a professional dance demonstration. We look forward to seeing you at our next swing vs. salsa dance party!

A few days prior to our New Year's Eve Gala, we concluded our 2005 event calendar with a salsa lesson followed by a Latin dance party at H20. It was a great opportunity to dance with friends both old and new while enjoying a night of Latin dancing.
